In an August 3, 2011 article in the Houston Chronicle, it has been reported that the FCC has released a report on broadband Internet access that recognizes most Internet Service Providers are now delivering connection speeds that are close to what they promise.  The report went on to say that this is an improvement over last year’s similar FCC report that indicated ISPs were generally underperforming in 2009. The report included performance reviews of individual Internet providers, including the two largest providers servicing the City of Houston. In a related story the Associated Press reported this month that AT&T has announced it will begin hiring dozens of technicians in the state of South Carolina due to its expanding U-Verse services in that state. The company announced that it is planning to hire forty-one technicians over the next few months. Positions will become available in Greenville, Columbia and Charleston. A company spokesman indicated that since the company began offering U-verse, the growing demand has necessitated the additional staffing. In areas where U-Verse is not available, ATT DSL may be another fast broadband option.
