Have you ever wondered how the water filters work and if they really do anything? Well then read this because I will describe how water filters work and just what it is that they do. If you’ve read the label on a filtered water bottle you will probably see that it says “filtered by reverse osmosis” somewhere. That’s exactly what water filters for your sink faucet do as well.
Reverse osmosis was developed around the early 1970′s. It is quite confusing how exactly reverse osmosis works. It has many steps. First the water’s pushed through a sediment filter, which gets rid of rust and calcium carbonate. Then an activate carbon filter soaks up all the bad chemicals and chlorine that you don’t want it your water. Then a reverse osmosis filter is put into play. It takes salt ions and such out of your water. That is how you get filter water.
This was just a simple water filter. There are some that have more steps to insure safe water but the prices can get high on those. The only complaint of some owners of water filters is that it drives up your water bill because of excess dumped water. I own one of these and never noticed a higher water bill because of it.
