The moment I saw the Nantucket Ball Finial I just had to have it on my stair banister and I loved it so much in the house I simply had to add it to the deck rail and privacy fence surrounding the back yard. When I first saw this particular finial it struck a chord of sentimentality in me and I realized, that was because it reminded me of the movie “It’s A Wonderful Life” starring Jimmy Stewart. I remembered how he repeatedly forgot that the ball finial on the stairs was not fastened in place and he kept grabbing it and knocking it off. The whole story takes place in the quaint little fictitious town of Bedford Falls which is incidentally just the kind of town I have always wanted to live in so I decided to bring a little of Bedford Falls to my house.

I was happy to discover how well made they are and that all I needed to do was seal them with an oil based stain to prevent cracking (they can also be painted) and attach them. Attaching each finial was easy because the holes were already pre-drilled and they came with the necessary hardware. Ah, this may not be Bedford Falls but it is a wonderful life.
